Poipoia te kākano - Teacher Aide Professional Learning and Development

Applications for Poipoia te kākano teacher aide professional learning and development (PLD) funding are now open.

Poipoia te kākano is a learning programme that provides free, flexible online professional learning for teacher aides. The programme focuses on building teacher aides’ capability to support Year 1 learners | ākonga with unmet needs. Teacher aides will learn why behaviours occur and how to use practical strategies to support learner engagement and help keep the classroom running smoothly. The programme includes six learning modules, accompanied by webinars, podcasts and guidance material.

Schools wishing to access funding to support teacher aides participating in the Poipoia te kākano learning programme can now apply through an online form. Funding is available for teacher aides who work with Year 1 learners | ākonga at a state or state integrated primary or area school | kura. Funding is available to reimburse schools for teacher aide learning time.
 

Eligibility

To be eligible for funding, teacher aides must:

  • be currently working as a teacher aide 
  • work at a state or state integrated primary or area school | kura
  • spend at least some of their working hours supporting Year 1 learners.


Once funding is approved, teacher aides will be emailed with instructions on how to access the programme and will work with their schools for payment related to time spent on the programme. Funding is available for up to 14 hours per eligible teacher aide.  Schools will pay participating teacher aides through their normal payroll processes. Reimbursement will be paid directly to schools once the teacher aide has completed the programme. The first learning module is available now. The remaining five modules will be released progressively throughout the year. Updates on release dates will be communicated to schools and participating teacher aides and published on the programme webpage.
