Primary Teachers' Sabbatical

The Primary Teachers' Sabbatical gives you paid leave for 10 school weeks so you can reflect, rejuvenate and undertake professional learning. Each year, we offer 50 sabbaticals to teachers in state or state-integrated primary schools.

The application period for the 2025 Primary Teachers’ Sabbatical opened on Thursday 16 May and will run for 6 weeks until Thursday 27 June. You need to use your existing Education Sector Logon (ESL) role to log in and apply for this sabbatical.

If you do not currently have an ESL role, contact your school's ESL Delegated Authoriser who will be able to set up an ESL role for you in the 'Te Mahau Service Portal'.
