The BeTTER Jobs Programme which matches and funds beginning and returning teachers into eligible schools and kura will close from 5 October 2025.

All teachers and schools with participating teachers already in the BeTTER Jobs Programme before it closes will continue to receive payments, provided they continue to meet all eligibility criteria. Schools should not advertise BeTTER after 5 October 2025. BeTTER will no longer be taking applicants after 5 October 2025.

Teachers and schools who have participated in the BeTTER Scheme may be eligible for the new Teacher Bonding Scheme incentives if the school has an available TBS vacancy.

Teacher Bonding Scheme

A new Teacher Bonding Scheme (TBS) has been introduced to help priority staffing schools attract and support teachers.

From October 2025, teachers recruited to eligible schools for a TBS vacancy will receive annual payments accumulating to a maximum total of $40,000 after the completion of 5 years. The TBS is available to any teacher appointed to a TBS role.

More information on TBS is available here.
