If you are a former school employee and due a payment, we will contact you using the details held in the payroll system. We might try to reach you via email, text, letter or phone call.
If you’ve left the school sector, you can update your contact information by registering on the Schools Payroll Remediation Portal.
Before we can process your payment, we need to check that we are paying the correct person and all your details are up to date.
You will need to register an account in the Schools Payroll Remediation Portal to verify your identity and confirm your bank details and tax code. If you have received a notification from us, enter your unique reference number when prompted.
Once your claim is confirmed, you'll receive an email with the gross amount (before tax and deductions) you are due and when to expect payment into your nominated bank account.
On the payment date, you will be sent a payslip from Education Payroll Limited. Use your seven-digit Ministry of Education (MoE) number to open the attachment.
We will pay any money owed – even small amounts – to ensure everyone receives their entitlements. Length of service is not always a factor in whether money is due, or the size of any payment.
If you are acting on behalf of a former employee or for the estate of a deceased employee, you also need to register on the Schools Payroll Remediation Portal.
If you are unable to register in the Schools Payroll Remediation Portal, you can ask our team to send you a registration pack in the post.
Tax, deductions and changes to your income
Income tax and ACC contributions are deducted using the tax code you provide.
KiwiSaver employer and employee contributions are calculated based on your current KiwiSaver status. Student loan repayments are deducted as required by law.
You can contact Inland Revenue or the Ministry of Social Development for advice about whether this payment affects any benefits, tax credits or other support payments you receive or make.
Phishing is when someone uses an email, text or phone call to try to get access to sensitive information (like bank account numbers and passwords).
For schools payroll remediation payments, we will never ask you for your bank account login and password. The information you receive from us will direct you to a Ministry of Education website.
You can learn more about phishing scams on the Netsafe website.
