Holidays Act initial estimate payments

While we work to fully address Holidays Act errors, we are making a series of payments based on initial estimates. 

We made initial estimate payments to some current school employees in 2023 and 2024. We are now making initial estimate payments to some former school employees.

About the payments

The initial estimate payments are based on simplified calculations and cover some leave types for part of the remediation period.

Initial estimate payments could include one or more of these components.

Each case is different because earning history and leave patterns are unique. Length of service is not a factor in whether arrears are due.

After we run further calculations, we will pay current and former school employees the difference between the total amount owed and any amount already paid.
 

Former employees

From May 2025, we are making available $24.5 million in initial estimate payments to about 46,000 former school employees.

We are contacting former school employees owed initial estimate payments in batches, starting with those owed most. 

Not all former employees are owed a payment. If you are owed a payment, we will contact you when we’re ready to make it.
